Epic REACT Mods and Carbon Fiber experiments

With the disclaimer that I am no shoe or foot expert, I have to disagree with Ted from Saucony when he says, "“And one of the key elements is it is very stiff, so reducing the amount of flexibility in the forefoot creates more efficiency, your muscles have to work a little bit less, become more...

Epic REACT Mods and Carbon Fiber experiments

I realize this is a Nike forum, but sometimes the best way to understand how Nike gets it right is to see how competitors get it wrong. I've said before other shoe companies may have added a carbon fiber plate to their shoes, but they don't seem to yet understand what it does and why it helps...

    Nike REACT ....INSTANT GO

Doh! I always seem to be abroad on business travel when the big sales happen. I can order while away, but then they sit on my porch for weeks, and I'm worried about porch pirates. Maybe they couldn't match the purple with the wearpad rubber?

I wonder if GOVRN can put an ER upper on a Havoc midsole? That might be GOAT.

    Nike REACT ....INSTANT GO

The fact he had to wear two pairs of socks to make them fit shows the new "knit" upper is a fail. The real flyknit upper of the ERs, Phantoms, and Rise adjusts and fits whether going sockless, wearing thin running socks or thick winter wool socks.

You always make the best CWs. I love how the green is wear pad, heel clip, and laces, while the swoosh and liner are red, on a purple upper. Fantastic!

If you notice, Nike put the seam between the REACT and rubber outsole right at the metatarso-phalangeal joint, point C in the diagram above. Yet another reason I like the ER outsole, and prefer the Epics over the Odyssey or Legend variants with more outsole rubber. Point C is the most important...

Epic REACT Mods and Carbon Fiber experiments

There is another factor in shoe performance that I feel the Epic React nails and many other "running shoes" do not. It is important for the shoe to flex sufficiently in mid/outsole and upper that you can do a full heel lift in them without binding. The lower leg and foot forms a lever system...

Epic REACT Mods and Carbon Fiber experiments

I have been asked how I can run in laceless shoes like the Phantom, and why would I want to do so. What about "lockdown"? I started running laceless purely by accident. I showed up to a road race wearing my laceless ERs I used as casual slip-ons, and then realized I had forgotten my running...

Another change in the IR versus the ER1, ER2, Rise, and Phantom is a switch from a variable weave flyknit to a even mesh like weave. It might still be a flexible knit structure, but it is evenly woven. Compare the IR here: With an ER2 here: The main advantage Nike had over other brands'...

    Nike REACT ....INSTANT GO

Since all my ERs, Rise, and Phantoms are similar, I use my Peg Turbos to give my feet something different. Very plush, very different feeling. My fav recovery shoe.

    Nike REACT ....INSTANT GO

What worries me about the lofted flyknit of the IR is that it looks like it has a consistent even weave across toe box, instep, and forefoot. The ER1 and ER2 flyknits have a variable weave that makes it stretch differently in different parts of the upper. The lofted flyknit might as well be just...

I've found I cannot use a full length zoom air shoe, and I've tried them all from Nike. It fights my stride. Separate heel and forefoot air units are OK, but when the two are connected, it just doesn't feel right when running at 7-8mm pace.

Thanks tigo. The reason I haven't tried them yet is the bootie construction. I have a HIGH instep, so I was worried it will be constricting during my range of motion. That is why I take my laces off my ERs and prefer Phantoms, so the top of the flyknit will flex enough for my instep during stride.
